Bobwhite Quail
To watch a bird dog work a field border, a hedge row edge or a stand of thinned timber, then suddenly slam on the brakes to point a covey is very exciting. It gets your heart pumping in anticipation, but there’s no other adrenaline rush more exciting than the simultaneous reaction of shouldering your shotgun upon a covey rise of Bobwhite Quail with a chance to shoot one on the wing.
The Northern Bobwhite Quail (Colinus virginianus) has long been a favorite of landowners and hunting enthusiast across the Southeast. Besides being a desirable wildlife species for recreational hunting and delicious choice of table fare, bobwhite quail also play an important role within forest, grassland, and agricultural ecosystems. Bobwhite quail are an indicator species to the health of habitat conditions of their environment and other wildlife species sharing the same environment.
Blackridge Land Co. Wildlife Biologists understand the habitat needs for bobwhite quail and can identify the habitat components missing on your property, as well as assess the quality of the habitat at present.
